Arrival to Prague, nicknamed the “city of a thousand spires” for good reason: as you glance over its 1,100 year-old skyline, you’ll be rewarded with splendid views of lovely domed churches and soaring old towers that combine to make Prague one of the world’s architectural gems. Walk the grounds of Prague castle, the largest castle complex in the world, and see iconic places such as St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica, the Powder Tower, the Old Royal Palace, and the Golden Lane. Stroll across Charles Bridge, particularly famous for its many fine old statues and discover the Wenceslas Square and stop by Astronomical Clock and Old Square. Visit the Church of Our Lady of Victorious, the Shrine of Infant Jesus. The church is famous for Jesus’ statuette of the Infant Jesus of Prague, originally from Spain. The statue is credited with miraculous healing. Dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight. (D)

Spend the day exploring the city on your own. You can visit many impressive sites, such as the Nuremberg Castle with its three castles that tower over the city, the central market, called the Hauptmarkt, with its unique Gothic Frauenkirche (Our Lady’s Church), and the Schöner Brunnen (Beautiful Fountain), the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Germany’s largest museum of cultural history, the Chain Bridge (Kettensteg), the first chain bridge on the European continent, the Tiergarten Nürnberg, a zoo stretching over more than 60 hectares (148 acres) in the Nüremberg Reichswald forest, or even the Nazi party rally grounds with the documentation center. There is also a medieval market just inside the city walls, selling handcrafted goods. (B)

Breakfast and time to explore Munich on your own. The focal point of Munich’s historic inner city is the large, open square, the Marienplatz, Neues Rathaus (New City Hall) and Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall). You also may want to visit English Garden, the Munich Residenz and the Olympic Park. The balance of the day at leisure, followed by group dinner at Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest tent.
