Day 01, Friday, September 24
Departure from the United States.
Day 02, Saturday, September 25: Arrival to Venice airport – Portoroz
Meet & greet upon arrival to Venice airport. Transfer (1 group ride) to hotel in the seaside resort of Portoroz. Welcome dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Portoroz. (D)
Day 03, Sunday, September 26: Portoroz, excursion along the Slovenian coast
After breakfast orientation tour of historic Piran and later drive to one of local wineries for the tasting of Slovenian wines and local cold cuts. In the early afternoon we will enjoy boat ride along Slovenian coast with barbeque style lunch on board. An accordion player will provide entertainment. Overnight in Portoroz. (B, Wt, L)
Day 04, Monday, September 27: Piran – Lipica – Dutovlje – Skocjan Cave or Postojna Caves – Portoroz
A Lipica sightseeing tour to see the famous white horses, followed by a drive to Dutovlje for wine and prosciutto tasting at Lisjak homestead. In the afternoon drive to Postojna caves for a visit to the beautiful underground world and a subterranean train ride. Dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Portoroz. (B, Wt, D)
Day 05, Tuesday, September 28: Portoroz – Kobarid / Bovec / Tolmin / the Alps – Bled
Today we will enjoy a long drive to Bled, with several stops on the way: Solkan bridge, WW1 museum in Kobarid, lunch in Tolmin, Boka waterfall in Bovec, drive through Predel pass, stop at Planica ski jump… Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Bled. (B, L, D)
Day 06, Wednesday, September 29: Bled – Bohinj – Bled
Morning sightseeing tour of Bled with a visit to the imposing Bled castle. Next we will drive to Bohinj, another Alpine resort, and enjoy the scenery of Bohinj Lake. A cable car will take us to Vogel Mountain with a beautiful view over the lake and Julian Alps. Have a quick lunch (stew type traditional dish) on Vogel Mountain. Drive back to Bled. An afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Bled. (B, light L)
Day 07, Thursday, September 30: Bled – Radovljica – Begunje – Bled
After breakfast we will drive to the nearby village for a presentation of beekeeping and the life of bees, with a tasting of different types of honey with potica and water/juice. Free time to relax in Bled and get ready for an evening at Gostilna Avsenik. On the way to dinner we will stop in Radovljica for a walk around this beautiful medieval town. Overnight in Bled. Day 08, Friday, October 1: Bled – Blejski Vintgar – Ljubljana
On the way to Ljubljana we will stop at the Blejski Vintgar gorge to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves. Upon arrival to Ljubljana we will have a sightseeing tour, concluding with a wine tasting of Slovenian wines at Ljubljana Castle (entrance to the tower not included). Dinner in one of the local restaurants. Overnight in Ljubljana. (B, Wt, D)
Day 09, Saturday, October 2: Ljubljana – Slak Homestead – Ljubljana
After breakfast we will drive to Mirna Peč for a visit to Lojze Slak museum and homestead. We will taste the traditional cviček wine and Slak’s jabolčni štrudelj (apple strudel). Entertainment with accordion player. Return to Ljubljana for a farewell dinner to remember, a good meal and the Polka Academy – music and dancing galore! Overnight in Ljubljana. (B, Wt, D)
Day 10, Sunday, October 3: Ljubljana – Venice Airport
Transfer (1 group ride) to Venice airport for flight(s) back home. (B)
